Keep pedalling or you’ll fall off.

Yes, it’s all about the bike!

One of my missions this week was to find an inspirational quote. Something to use as a motivator when all the crap is piling up, as it does sometimes! Anyway, as cycling is the one hobby of mine that I do all by myself (no family tagging along) I thought I would combine inspiration and cycling in the Google search.

I found many, yet this one is by far my favourite: The best routes are the ones you haven’t ridden. You could pedal the same loops year after year. Many people do, literally or figuratively. But to grow, you need new rides. Risks. Turn down lanes you’ve long seen but never traveled. Get lost once or twice, then double back to where you started and try again. Live like this and you come to see unknown territory not as threatening, but as intriguing.

A close runner-up in the humour stakes was this one: The bicycle is just as good company as most husbands and, when it gets old and shabby, a woman can dispose of it and get a new one without shocking the entire community.
— Ann Strong, Minneapolis Tribune, 1895

I have no intention of trading The Engineer in (or any of my bikes for that matter). For now it’s all systems go.

  1. “When I see an adult on a bicycle I do not despair for the future of the human race”. I named my blog after this H.G. Wells quote!
