Well hello 2018 & hello snow (again!)

We awoke to this!

The last hours of 2017 were not typical celebrations in this house. Some idiot let off fireworks early* on Saturday night and spooked poor Noa (and me a little, if truth be told). As the night wore he retreated to a cool dark corner. Perry joined him just before midnight also. So we three sat there in the dark as the fireworks exploded all around us…

This morning he didn’t want to leave the house at all, fortunately he did and by the time we returned he was quite sparky. Hopefully he’ll be back to normal in no time, although this breed have quite a long memory so we’ll just have to wait and see.

*Currently the law in Finland allows for personal use sale of fireworks which can be fired between the hours of 1800 – 0200 (? Need to check this!) on December 31st. The majority follow this… except for those few idiots who think its funny to fire rockets early…

It’s just not winter without snow.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even worse – it’s above zero and so everything is muddy… dog walks mean showers afterwards (for everybody!).
And there is a nice crowd gathering over at Travel With Intent 😉
Yes! Presidential election papers have arrived.
Along with all the pre-polling places, dates and times….
Round one will be Sunday January 28th and if it’s too close to call (like last time) then we’ll go to round two on Sunday 11th February.
All of the major parties are represented as well as a seasoned politician who could well be the big upset on the day.
There will be more on this subject between now and the election 😎
On a personal note, this time the whole family get to vote – Mr. 18 gets to head to the polls for the first time!
Remember to visit Travel With Intent to see other six word Saturday musings 🙂
(Six Word Saturday for the uninitiated!)
Yes, starting Saturday December 30th, 2017 there will be at least one 6 Word Saturday posting 🙂
Firstly, as it’s been so long since I’ve done any posting, I had no idea that the original host of Six Word Saturday (Show My Face) had passed the baton on to Travel With Intent. You can see Debbie’s most recent posting here. You might also want to hang around her page and check out some of her photography (I particularly like this one from December 27th!).
Now, my page needs some maintenance to repair the link with the old six word Saturday logo…
See you latest on Saturday with my 6 words 🙂
The calendar tells me that tomorrow is Wednesday.
My brain is telling me that tomorrow is Monday.
Anybody else suffering from this calendar confusion?
Being a beta tester …
WordPress (& Android) just invited me to beta-test the new app. So here I am… although what I’m going to post about is still a mystery…
I could talk about selling the old house, buying a new place and the whole moving experience. 🚚
I could talk about the joys of family – near and far. Alternatively the pettiness of family, both near and far. On second thoughts let’s just leave that one alone 🤔
The dogs continue to be a great source of joy (and frustration!). Here they are in the forest today!
The older (lighter) one Perry is barking at me. I’m fairly certain this is a command to hurry up and take the picture!
Home life is interesting and just got a lot more musical with a turntable arriving in the house. In this day of Spotify and instant music everywhere I think it will be a nice change to start playing LP’s again.
In honour of this, I’ve found what could well be my new favourite shop – Black & White Records in Hakaniemi ❤
Now I’m done with testing. I will say editing pictures and returning to the post isn’t particularly intuitive and it’s always difficult to continue typing text after adding a picture at the foot of the text….
Wow! I’ve been blogging for 6 years already. Although to be honest, the last two years have been less about blogging and more about stalking 🙂
So for now, here are my Christmas greetings. Both Finnish & English.
The observant readers might notice the somewhat bizarre # character thrown in where there should be a nice R. My lightbox is a litttle low on certain consonants. I could use a few more H’s as well…
Until next time! Cheers & Merry Christmas
🎄🎁☃❄
Whilst cleaning out my personal e-mail account this morning, I stumbled across a message imploring me to check out the new and improved “WordPress for Android”.
So I downloaded it and it’s already passed an unofficial test. I left a comment on a blog post earlier this morning and when Andy answered me, first came a little pling and then the WordPress logo was in my notifications area.
Now apparently the photo / media posting is improved. Seeing as I wasn’t using the app earlier I’m not sure what will be better.
Here goes!
Motonet spare parts guy
This happy guy is imploring me to buy jobs for Finland.
Certainly adding pictures seems to be easy enough… just not sure how to get the text under the picture easily.
Blogging ABOUT school # 01
So back in 2013, I was sitting in the classroom and wrote this post about blogging! Fast forward to 2017 and I was once again in a blogging workshop, although for a different course. This time, I thought I’d put my time to good use and update the blog that I started at the beginning of the course (back in September of last year) and post a few things.
One big adjustment was to invite myself to be an administrator for the school blog. I thought at the time I should set it up as a different user, then I found out that the WordPress app does not handle that – as in I couldn’t sign out as myself and sign in again as my other self! So now user Kanvera has rights to post on the school blog I’ve set up – https://hungryforhelsinki.wordpress.com/ and shortly will usurp the existing ‘owner’ of the blog so that all of my blogs will be under the one roof / user id!
There is an associated Facebook page as well (of course) which is also getting plenty of attention from me – I’ll be using that to ‘check in’ to places when the class out in the field.
