Just for one day

What is a super power I’d love to have?

Tough question for the beginning of the week! What ever I choose though, it will be just for one day. Having a super power all the time would be exhausting.

At first I decided on the power of giving everyone a healthy dose of common sense. It seems to be lacking in my neighbourhood at the moment. Then I shifted gear slightly and thought I’d share compassion with everybody. Also something that seems to be in short supply – I am blaming COVID weariness for this one.

Then it came to me, like a flash; well a hot flush actually. (For my American readers they mean the same thing, you have hot flashes, we have hot flushes or in Finnish kuuma aallot) My super power (just for one day) is to share hot flushes with men, even just one and then, just maybe they might understand or begin to understand what we’re going through.

I googled the purpose of hot flushes, and it seems there is no purpose. It’s our bodies having a little malfunction of wiring due to hormone changes. They think. Which reminded me of the book that I read not so long ago, Invisible Women (Caroline Criado Perez) which should be compulsory reading for everybody!

Community service time:

Hot flushes are most commonly caused by changing hormone levels before, during and after menopause. It’s not clear exactly how hormonal changes cause hot flushes. But most research suggests that hot flushes occur when decreased estrogen levels cause your body’s thermostat (hypothalamus) to become more sensitive to slight changes in body temperature. When the hypothalamus thinks your body is too warm, it starts a chain of events — a hot flush — to cool you down.

Let me tell you, my thermostat is ALL over the place…

I've said my bit! Now it's your turn :) Go on, have your say.
